the s5 Program
The “5” in Studio 5 reflects the five fundamentals of physical fitness: muscle strength and muscle endurance, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and body composition. We’ve built our program so that each of our specialty classes addresses one or more of these critical components and will maximize your time spent with us. Studio 5 provides top-tier group fitness and indoor cycle classes, each tailored to the individual client. We offer an encouraging and supportive environment that’ll keep you coming back for more!
Muscle strength means how much force your muscle can exert during a set. In some Studio 5 classes we use light weights as we are targeting the smaller muscles. Light weights and long sets help give you a sculpted physique. In other classes we encourage the use of heavier weights because strength training helps burn calories and well, we like that too. If you change it up, your body will respond positively, and you’ll see results.
Simply stated, body composition is your percentage of body fat vs. lean muscle. All of Studio 5’s classes are designed to increase lean muscle and reduce overall body fat. We at Studio 5 embrace that our clients come in all shapes and sizes. To that extent, individual client needs differ from one to another. Group classes are modified to accommodate all levels of fitness.
Muscle endurance means how many times your muscles can repeat a certain exertion or force. At Studio 5, some of our sets are 6-8 minutes long. Can you fight through it? Are your muscles trained not to quit despite the burn? At first, no way but after just a few classes you’ll begin to feel a difference in your overall strength. Give us a few months and you’ll push through most, if not all of our strength training exercises.
Cardiovascular endurance is your heart’s ability to provide oxygen to the body during physical activity for an extended period of time. Your heart is a muscle and can be trained through exercise to better perform and there are so many health benefits to housing a healthy heart!
No mystery here, flexibility is how far a muscle can stretch its fibers. Flexibility is critical for many reasons like injury prevention, reducing back pain, improving posture, and helps increase your athletic performance. We at Studio 5 pride ourselves on taking time to stretch in each and every class. It feels amazing to allow your body and your mind to relax after a workout. Our mat-based Pilates classes concentrate on strength and flexibility. At the end of the day, we want you to feel centered, strong, long and lean. This cannot be achieved with stiff, tight muscles.
what to expect
- Only bring items into the studio necessary for the scheduled class (i.e. cycle shoes). We offer a place for shoes and coats, but space is limited so less is more.
- Mats are provided for every class.
S5 Barre, EnerGBarre, Pilates, PilatesFit + PILOXING are barefoot training classes; sticky socks are welcome.
All S5 cycle classes require sneakers or spin shoes.
The instructor will start each class and end each class on time. Please note: For indoor-cycle classes, the instructor will lock the door right before the start of class. If you are running late, chances are you won't be able to get in. We apologize, but your safety comes first and we ask you to always arrive a few minutes early so we can ensure proper bike set up.
- Please arrive to class 10-15 minutes PRIOR to the start of class. Late arrivals are disruptive to the class and instructors. Really early arrivals impede on the instructor’s ability to set up for class room and get settled.
- Once you enter the studio, find a place for your belongings, grab weights of your choice, get settled on your mat or bike, stretch, chat and enjoy until each other until kick-off.
Bring your own water and towel.
S5 XTraining and BURN are cardio based, so please bring sneakers.
